The Waldorf Hilton has an illustrious history and rich heritage dating back to its opening in 1908. Set in the heart of London's theatre land, close to Covent Garden, the hotel has attracted a string of stars from all over the world. Elizabeth Taylor, Pavarotti, Pierce Brosnan and Dame Judi Dench are just a handful of show business icons that have stayed at the hotel. Please note check in is from 15.00 although you can leave your bags at the hotel.
Plenty of eating establishments around Covent Garden. A chance to use 241 booklet for many of the London attractions which include London Eye & river cruises. I shall send this with your full itinerary.
I have been very lucky to obtain 12 tickets for The Ceremony of the Keys. The traditional locking up of the Tower of London that has taken place on each and every night, without fail, for at least 700 years. The importance of securing this fortress for the night is still very relevant because, although the Monarch no longer resides at this royal palace, the Crown Jewels and many other valuables still do! Set amidst the mighty battlements of the ancient historic fortress, the Ceremony of the Keys is one of the oldest and colourful surviving ceremonies of its kind. The exact origin of the Ceremony is somewhat obsure, it probably dates from the time of the White Tower - the great Norman fortress commenced by William the Conqueror and completed by 1100.
Visitors must meet at 21.30 at The Tower and the Ceremony finishes at 10.05 when you are escorted out. Please note that there are no toilet facilites available and no photography is permitted.
Monday
After a good breakfast we check out and leave our bags ready to collect late afternoon.
You are a few minutes from Covent Garden so perhaps a visit if you hadn't already done so on Sunday. The Masonic Lodge is within walking distance and usually has free guided tours on a Monday. This is a fascinating building, used in many films, television shows, adverts & videos. Enjoy a coffee on the balcony of the Royal Opera House looking over Covent Garden, often there are free lunchtime recitals at 13.00 which feature the rising stars of the Jette Parker Young Artists Programme, members of the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House and The Royal Opera Chorus and Southbank Sinfonia. Perhaps a visit to Fortenum & Mason or Harrods to finish off the weekend experience. Or the bus stops very close to the hotel for The Tower of London a good opportunity to visit this very interesting attraction using your 241 ticket.
