Hampton Court Flower Show

+ Upton Grey & West Green Gardens

Thursday 7th/Friday 8th July 2016

Thursday

Morning departure  with coffee stop enroute  to our two garden visits.

The Manor House, Upton Grey which now is one of the great showcases of a Jekyll garden.  Although we plan on arriving mid day please note this is a private garden and they do not have catering although we will be given a cuppa.

Orginally created by renowned designer Gertrude Jekyll in 1908, this five-acre garden is a beautiful example of her work and has been restored to her original plans by the current owners,  the orginal plans  are on display. The wild garden features rambler roses, a pond, wildflowers and trees, while the formal garden is terraced, with planted dry-stone walls. There are herbaceous borders, a nuttery, an orchard and kitchen garden.

After our visit to The Manor House, we visit another garden, restored by another great lady gardener, Marylyn Abbott.  Marylyn a well known garden writer & creator  has taken over the lease of West Green House Gardens from the National Trust and restored them, the garden now combines neo-classical style with flamboyant contemporary design.

Our hotel for the night is the Marriott Hotel, Twickenham part Twickenham Stadium, home to the England rugby team, this 4* hotel has all the usual facilities, bathroom with shower, bath, hairdryer, free toiletries, tea/coffee, iron etc.   Guests have complimentary use of the Virgin Active Fitness including  exercise, sauna & swimming pool.

Friday

After a good breakfast we travel the short distance to Hampton Court  to spend the day at the  world's largest annual flower show.

Set against the magnificent backdrop of Hampton Court Palace, the RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show is where gardening gets down to earth.

As well as the stunning floral displays, you can learn about growing your own fruit and vegetables, get tips on gardening in a changing climate, and shop for garden products.

This RHS  spectacle is the largest of its kind in the world and, for six days in July, thousands of gardening fans can see, smell and touch an abundance of floral delights. You can enjoy around 50 inspiring display gardens including the tranquil water gardens (a unique category of this show), the rose marquee and the innovative conceptual gardens showcasing the next big names in garden design.

Hundreds of the UK's best nurseries fill the floral marquees, Festival of Roses and Plant Heritage Marquee. Floral art, fruit, vegetables and floristry are also a major part of the show.

With lots of opportunities to buy gifts and gadgets and several tempting catering options, everyone should have a glorious day out at the Hampton Court Palace Flower Show.
