Thursday
Morning departure for Waddesdon Manor stopping for a short visit to Swindon Outlet for either a quick look around, coffee/early lunch.
With huge
Christmas trees in front of the House and at the Stables, all decorated with
thousands of lights Waddesdon should be looking stunning. Each year the East Wing and Bachelors' Wing at Waddesdon Manor which we have timed tickets for are beautifully decorated to
reflect a chosen theme. The exciting theme in the House this year is Lights and Legends - see
decorations reflecting myths, stories and rituals from around the world, some
traditional, some contemporary and some exotic but all celebrating light at this
festive time of year.
There's plenty to see & enjoy in the Gardens at Waddesdon this
Christmas. From traditional real pine Christmas trees placed all around the
Gardens. Standing to attention at the main entrance you'll see two enormous
Christmas trees, beautifully lit and twinkling as the light begins to fade.
There are more stunning trees all around the gardens creating a
magical Christmas atmosphere & contemporary light sculptures hidden throughout the gardens by the acclaimed light artist Bruce Munro.
The Christmas Gift & Food Fair is also on with little chalets selling their wares.
Our hotel for the night is the 4* Hilton Reading hotel.
Relax with a swim in the indoor pool before dinner.
Friday
After breakfast we will depart for Longleat.
Longleat will again stage Europe’s largest ever display of giant Chinese lanterns again this Christmas. The Festival of Lights will see hundreds of enormous illuminated features, some measuring up to 18 metres in height, transform the Wiltshire estate in to a glowing wonderland.
The unique display will cover more than 30 acres and feature a variety of traditional Chinese designs including dragons and pagodas alongside giant recreations of some of Longleat Safari Park’s famous animals.
After the great success of last years Festival of Light work is under way to create a larger display for this Winter. A team of 100 highly-skilled craftsmen from the village of Zigong in China's Sichuan Province spend 6 months to create this spectical. A total of around 7,000 individual lanterns, 5km of silk and a dazzling 40km of LED lights are being used to create a series of stunning tableaux last winter.
A chance to explore the outside of the park & house befores it becomes transformed and lit up.
