Morning departure with coffee stop enroute to Welford Park Gardens near Newbury for their snowdrop display. The snowdrops at Welford Park were most probably planted by the Norman
monks to decorate their Church for the feast of Candlemas, and also for
medicinal use. The monks harvested snowdrops and used to rub them on the
temple of people suffering from “mal au tete” (wrong in the head). Close to the snowdrop
woods have also been found wild aconitum, petasites and mistletoe all of
which have strong healing properties.
The most spectacular display of the snowdrops at Welford Park is in the beech wood covering approximately 5 acres alongside the River Lambourn.
There is a tea rooms and heated tent serving tea/coffee, soup, jacket potatoes & their own Welford Park sausages & mash.
