 Manchester Ship Canal & more

Friday 8th/Sunday 10th September 2017

Morning departure with coffee stop & comfort stops enroute.
On our way to Manchester we will visit  Warwick and have a guided tour of Lord Leycesters Hospital with one of the Brothers. The Lord Leycester Hospital is not now, and has never been a medical establishment. The word ‘hospital’ is used in its ancient sense meaning “a charitable institution for the housing and maintenance of the needy, infirm or aged”. In the reign of Queen Elizabeth I it became, under the patronage of Robert Dudley, Earl of Leicester, a place of retirement for old warriors. So it remains today as an independent charity providing homes for ex-Servicemen and their wives.
Our hotel is the Marriott Manchester Airport

The highlight of our trip.  A trip on the Manchester Ship Canal from Manchester to Liverpool which lasts approx 6 hours.  We  travel the 35-miles of the canal, enjoying spectacular scenery and a lively commentary along the way. Hear the story of how this magnificent waterway shaped the city of Manchester and the North West of England; taking us through locks and bridges that have remained largely unchanged since their construction over 100 years ago; plus show us some of the region’s most stunning architectural and natural sights.
