STOURHEAD & WADDESDON MANOR (JEWEL IN THE NATIONAL TRUST CROWN) with Standing with Giants

We make our way to Stourhead.  One of the first grand Palladian-style villas to be built in England, with a carriage entrance leading to the piano nobile, or main floor.  World-famous landscape garden with a lake set among lawns and classical temples, surrounded by trees and with sweeping views. Buildings include the Temple of Flora, the Temple of Apollo and the Pantheon, which was inspired by the Pantheon in Rome.  Stourhead is known for autumn colour but with the seasons at the moment, who knows if there will be, if not you get better views with no leaves on the trees.

Saturday 

After breakfast we will make our way to Waddesdon Manor,  cared for by the Rothschild Foundation in partnership with National Trust.

Created from 1874 by Baron Ferdinand de Rothschild, the French inspired château was built for beauty, for a collections, and for entertaining. Today its doors open wide to reveal masterpieces and curiosities, sweeping gardens, and hidden corners, stories that surprise and details that delight.

The Standing with Giants exhibition is in its third year and if you haven't seen in Normandy  this is a chance for you to see here, stand in awe of this spectacle. This year  D-Day 1476 commemorates the 1,476 lives lost on 6th June 1944 under British command on D-Day.    Reflecting the broader story of the Normandy Campaign, 40 additional silhouettes representing British Commando Frogmen and personnel serving with the Royal Army Medical Corps will also be included.  'Standing with Giants' works to raise understanding and appreciation of our freedom and to remember and pay tribute to those who gave their lives so we could live ours today.
