TWO SOMERSET NATIONAL TRUST PROPERTIES
BARRINGTON COURT GARDENS & LYTES CARY MANOR
Our first visit will be to Barrington Court Gardens. (Presently the house is closed due to water damage repairs and will be for sometime).
The Walled White Garden, Rose & Iris Garden & Lily garden were are influenced by the famous garden designer, Gertrude Jekyll.
Our second visit is to Lytes Cary Manor a house of two families.
The Manor was home to the Lytes family for several centuries but after they left it fell into disrepair. The Jenners bought Lytes Cary in 1907 and rescued it from decay. Explore the medieval parts of the house, where the rooms remain as the Jenners restored and furnished them, full of unpainted and unpolished woodwork, faded tapestries and family collectables. Sir Walter and Lady Flora Jenner created a new garden. The design was Arts and Crafts-inspired and featured mostly rectangular ‘rooms’ separated by yew hedges and stone walls, each reflecting a different mood or purpose.
