ANTONY HOUSE (NATIONAL TRUST|)

Thursday 23rd June & Thursday 28th July 2022

While some of the group go to the Theatre Royal in Plymouth to see The Cher Show or Dreamgirls, the coach will take a group to Antony House.

This 18th-Century house set within a magnificent landscape garden, is still home to the Carew Pole family.

The house sits high above the river Lynher with sweeping views over the Repton designed landscape. The beautifully situated house is built from a rare pentewan stone which glows a silvery grey in the sunlight and gives the building its distinctive colour.

Antony is a house full of faces and personalities. Generations of Carews look down from gilded frames as you walk through the rooms. A rich family history tells of English Civil War intrigue and the remarkable scholarship and creativity of an aristocratic family.

The planting scheme in the summer garden was chosen by Lady Mary Carew Pole and incorporates muted tones of pink, purple, white and yellow. The garden is at its finest during early summer with displays of roses, peonies, alliums, poppies and more.  There is a knot garden, sculptures and more and Antony was used in the film Alice in Wonderland.

Coach departs Forde Park 10.00 followed by pickups Railway Station (park side) Courtenay Centre, Kingsteignton Road & the Ashburton Road route out of Newton Abbot.
